Exploring the blue sky, unnamed wildflowers, a tranquil lake, and mysterious Tibetan Buddhism, what a wonderful tour. However, Tibet is not as common as other tourist destinations on the planet, because of the distinctive natural environment, especially the high altitude. The symptoms of the high altitude sickness represent as follows: a headache, short breath, apocleisis, dizzy, malaise, and etc. Due to the low oxygen content, your mouth will be purple, and the symptoms such as drowsiness, delirium, insomnia and so on. Due to the dry air, the symptoms such as coarse skin, chapped lips, nosebleed, and so on.

Q: How to avoid the high altitude sickness?

A: High altitude sickness is very common for most travelers who live in a lower altitude. There is no certain definition that who is likely to suffer from the high altitude sickness. In fact, the best way for travelers to relieve the high altitude sickness is to keep a state of mind. Normally, many reactions are caused by the traveler’s psychology. The less mental preparations to overcome the high altitude sickness, the bigger chance to suffer from it.

When you arrive at the highland, you should avoid walking fast, running, jumping, labor activities, gluttony, drinking or smoking. You should eat more fruits, vegetables, drink more water, keep warm, etc. In case of catching a cold, you’d better not take shower too often. If there is no need, you’d better avoid using the oxygen facility. Once you use it, you will rely on it.

Medicine can also release the high altitude sickness. Before traveling to Tibet, you can ask your doctor what kind of medicine you should buy. You will adapt to the high altitude sickness several days later.

Buttered tea can also release the high altitude sickness. But a lot of tourists don’t like the taste of this Tibetan tea.

Q: What can I do if I suffer from the high altitude sickness.

A: If you are suffering from the high altitude sickness when having a tour in Tibet, you should go to the local hospital. Have a rest, avoid fierce activities, and take some medicines.

If you suffer from the serious high altitude sickness, you will have such symptoms like edema, pneumonedema, bad cold, etc. You must get to the hospital to treat and leave Tibet as soon as possible.
